Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at stlpropainter@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your questions

Add an answer to this item.A typical project follows:

  • Prep (cleaning, repairs, sanding, caulking, priming)
  • Paint application (correct coats per product spec)
  • Final walk-through and touch-ups with you present
Most standard rooms are completed in 1–2 days; larger or specialty projects may take longer. STL Pro Painters is fully insured, and we provide a written workmanship warranty. We’ll include warranty details and recommended maintenance on your estimate.

Simple process

  • Share photos/video or request a quick walk‑through.
  • We send a free, itemized estimate showing prep, materials, and labor.
  • Timeline and payment schedule are listed on your estimate.
  • Estimates are valid for [VALIDITY DAYS] days.

What affects price

  • Surface condition: repairs, patching, sanding, stain blocking.
  • Size & complexity: ceilings, stairwells, trim, cabinets, built‑ins.
  • Colors & coats: number of colors, sheen changes, product quality.
  • Accessibility: height, tight areas, furniture moving, off‑hours.
  • High‑value items & special handling: moving or protecting fine art/paintings, antiques, high‑value décor, heavy or oversized furniture (e.g., pianos), or specialty pieces may require extra crew time, specialized protection, or coordination with third‑party movers. This impacts price due to added time, materials, and liability.
  • Special conditions: lead‑safe work (pre‑1978), moisture issues, rot.

Liability note: Please tell us in advance about high‑value or fragile items. We may ask that you move them, or we can coordinate insured movers. Handling will be documented in your estimate.

Scope changes If you change the scope later, we’ll confirm adjustments in writing (email/text approval) before proceeding. We’ll update price and timeline if needed.

What’s included Protection, standard surface prep, proper primer where needed, specified coats, daily tidy‑up, end‑of‑job clean‑up, and a written workmanship warranty.

What’s not included (unless listed on your estimate) Major carpentry/rot repair, water‑intrusion fixes, permits, moving large built‑ins/appliances, specialty restoration, exterior window glazing, or customer‑supplied products. If we discover hidden issues, we’ll discuss options and provide a written change order.

Add an answer to this item. The day before (interior):

  • Declutter surfaces; remove small décor, fragile items, and wall art. Take down blinds/curtains if you want paint behind them.
  • Move lightweight furniture 3–4 ft from walls. We move/return standard items; heavy/oversized or high‑value pieces (pianos, antiques, fine art) should be moved by you or insured movers. We can coordinate this and will document handling on your estimate (affects price).
  • Confirm colors, finishes, and any accent walls; label rooms if names differ from the plan.
  • Finalize access: codes, parking/elevator reservations; ensure power and water are on.
  • Pets: set a safe room or crate so they’re comfortable and out of the work area.

Morning of (interior):

  • Unplug electronics and label cords; clear counters and shelves.
  • Remove switch/outlet plates if you prefer; otherwise we’ll handle them during prep.
  • HVAC: keep normal temperature/ventilation for proper drying; avoid space heaters blowing on fresh paint.
  • Let us know about alarms, nap times, or work‑from‑home needs so we can plan the noisiest tasks.

If we’re painting cabinets or doing add‑ons:

  • Cabinets: empty contents and clear counters; we’ll mask, sand/prime, and spray/roll per scope.
  • Inside fridge: remove perishables you want to keep; unplug ice maker if needed.
  • Interior windows: clear sills and provide access. We clean inside only unless noted on your estimate.

Exterior projects:

  • Move vehicles at least 15 ft from the home; unlock gates.
  • Trim shrubs/bushes 6–12 inches from siding and move patio furniture/grills away from walls. Turn off sprinklers.
  • Close windows/doors on wash and paint days; bring pets indoors or on leash.
  • Expect washing and prep to dry fully before paint; weather can shift schedules.

What we do:

  • Protect floors, furniture, and fixtures with drop cloths/plastic/paper.
  • Mask as needed; repair minor drywall, caulk gaps, and spot/full prime per product specs.
  • Daily tidy‑up; end‑of‑job clean‑up and labeled touch‑up cans left for you.
  • Final walk‑through with you to address touch‑ups before we demobilize.

Lead‑safe note (pre‑1978 homes): If your home may have lead paint, tell us. We follow EPA RRP practices as applicable. Please don’t sand suspected lead‑painted surfaces yourself.
